Parrot heads get ready to party with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band!
The "Party at the End of the World 2006" Tour kicked off April 18th at Cricket
Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona! Read the concert review below! |
As you would expect form the head parrot head, original musical pirate and the master
of clever tropical tales and lyrics the concert set fit the billing.
The back drop was an enormous canvas of a seaside scene complete with the special
effects of moving saltwater. There were two lifeguard chairs on either
end of the stage with "Jimmy Buffett" surfboards scattered here and there.
Jimmy, of course, and his talented Coral Reefer Band, complete with their steel
drums and congas, was front and center, ready and willing to engage the throngs
of cheering parrot heads throughout the show. Whether you are from
snow covered mountains or a large metropolitan city, Jimmy Buffett and his Coral
Reefer Band will take you to a warmer place, if not for just one wonderful evening. |
The warm cactus latitudes of the desert southwest in Arizona was the perfect setting
for Jimmy Buffett's premiere concert this week. As I sat below center
stage in the open air Cricket Pavilion I couldn't help but wonder if the old saltwater
cowboy still had the energy that this parrot head remembered from twenty
years ago in my Florida days. My curiosity was short lived however as
Jimmy the story teller strolled out on to the seaside set with the colorful and
talented Coral Reefer Band and immediately began to engage the thousands of cheering
fans with a crystal clear rendition of Son of Son of a Sailor. Buffett
then proclaimed "I'm 59 and still kicking Ass"! From that first song
until the end of the spectacular show under the desert sky, I and virtually
every fan in attendance, sang and danced the night away to the tunes that we
parrot heads cherish. Buffett even performed some older favorites like the 1974 ballad Pencil Thin Mustache. While he was introducing the song Buffett said "sometimes I still miss my old mustache". Jimmy played many popular songs from his 1994 album Fruitcakes during the evening's festivities. Jimmy's voice and demeanor were exactly as I remember from the old days in Florida and his boundless barefoot enthusiasm for performing live in concert was worth the two airplane flights to Arizona. "I never thought I'd be doing this at this time. I guess we're not done yet," Buffett said as the show wound down. He closed the night out with his classic "A Pirate Looks at 40," remarking with a chuckle that "that was a few ports ago for me." "The Party at the End of the World" tour is one show you do not want to miss! |
"Party at the End of the World" 2006 Tour Premiere Review |
Jimmy Premiered his New Song "Party at the End of the World" |
"I wrote this new song after visiting Tierra Del Fuego at the end of the world in
South America" said Buffett. "While I was there I came upon a party where
people of all colors and backgrounds came together and told stories and danced
the Samba". Buffet told the cheering crowd that he bet that they would
be repeating the chorus before the night was through as it is musically contagious.
He was right on and the new song was an instant live concert hit!
Look for this song and others to be available this October as his new CD will
hit he market. |

Parrot Heads Rejoice! In typical margaritaville fashion the legions of Jimmy Buffett faithful, aptly named parrot heads, started the party at the end of the world long before the concert started in the parking lot around the Cricket Pavilion. There were young children to grandparents all dressed in their favorite tropical garb. The fans arrived in vehicles painted with Buffett song lyrics and loaded with refreshing beverages. Grass skirts on both men and women were the norm and some revelers sported cheeseburger hats and shark fin head gear. For many Jimmy Buffett fans the beach party before the concert in the parking lot is as good as the show. Don't be afraid to bring the kids to this concert tour this summer as they will remember the show for a long time to come. Bwana Jim - Somewhere Over the Tropical Rocky Mountains! New Buffett Movie and Soundtrack! Jimmy Buffett's new motion picture "HOOT" features new songs by the original pirate himself. "HOOT" premiered in May throughout the country and features Jimmy Buffett as an actor in the film. Buffett plays the role of a high school teacher in a small Florida town. The film has a clever cast of youthful characters, beautiful scenery and portrays a Florida environmental message. Concert fans, if you are lucky, Jimmy Buffett may feature some of his new songs from the movie on his "Party at the End of the World" concert tour. Don't miss out; make plans to attend a Buffett concert somewhere in America this summer! |
